Description
2012 Petrolo Boggina C Valdorno di Sopra Sangiovese
Petrolo is a leading wine estate of Tuscany, Italy. It is located a mile or so to the east of Chianti Classico, within the Chianti Colli Aretini zone. It is widely regarded as rivalling many Chianti Classico properties in terms of quality, and is best known for its high-quality Sangiovese-based wines.
The wine portfolio is headed by the Bggina line which is composed of three varietal wines. Produced only in exceptional vintages, it is a trio of Trebbiano and two Sangiovese wines.
Valdarno di Sopra, alternatively written as “Val d’Arno di Sopra”, is one of Italy’s newer, and smaller DOC titles. It was introduced in the summer of 2011, and covers a section of the Arno Valley in the Arezzo province of eastern Tuscany.
Critical Acclaim
95 James Suckling
A wonderful balanced and refined red with a fabulous density and richness plus ripe strawberry. Full body, silky tannins and a long, long finish. Lots of cherry and chocolate with chili flakes too. Precise and harmonious. Incredible.
