“Our Abraham Bowman High Rye Bourbon was released in 2015 and embodies tasteful notes of honey, praline, and spice mingled with baked apples which makes for a delightful aroma and even more delicious finish. This bold bourbon recipe contains five times more rye than our standard bourbons”
A. Smith Bowman bought the 7,200-acre Sunset Hills farm in Fairfax County in 1927 with the intention of building a dairy and granary before establishing Virginia’s oldest distillery. Soon after putting the plan into action, his fields grew to be overflowing with grain, and he needed a purpose for it. The A. Smith Bowman legacy was completely altered by this single pivotal event, which finally produced the best whiskey in the entire world.
On the farmland, A. Smith Bowman erected a ground-breaking distillery that is now a family-run enterprise. He developed the first ever batch of Virginia Gentleman with the assistance of his two sons, and up until the 1950s, A. Smith Bowman Distillery was the sole producer of legal whiskey in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
