Wine Enthusiast
Another superb stout from the California-based The Bruery, this one aged in Bourbon barrels with Oregon-grown hazelnuts added. Right off the bat, it’s warm, roasty and spicy, with a deep mahogany color and a tiny rim of head that does not hang around. Scents of Bourbon-caramel sauce, booze-soaked raisin, candi sugar, dried dates and cocoa powder dance in the nose, with a nutty top note. The palate is big and viscous, with a good amount of warmth that carries through to the finish. Butterscotch, caramel sauce, browned sugar, hazelnut brittle and Bourbon spice flavors abound, finishing sweet, slightly sticky and with a spicy exhale. Definitely share this warming gem with friends.
